New book post!

Hey, gang--I am enjoying posting on my new computer! I broke down yesterday and got a computer with a mondo huge screen--for my aging library goddess eyes! I just found the new book post I forgot to actually publish--it looks pretty good, but it posted it pretty far down the blog. I am going to edit it again, to see if it will pull it up in order, but if not, be sure to pull down the page, and check out our new stuff! I learned how to add pictures, and am having a fun time with that! I am reading On Agate Hill--I am halfway through, I love it, but I've misplaced it. So I am spending the day cleaning, not knitting or reading, and it is bumming me out. Maybe I'll find my book!

I have a question...

What books are there that are realistic Vampire novels? I've already read "The Silver Kiss" I liked it. Anymore in that style?

Questions on Donating Books

Okay, i'm want to get rid of some books that i don't need, and i've been thinking of giving them to the library. I just want to know if you want my collection of Shonen Jumps? I really don't need them, and they're collecting dust. Plus i just spent a about $130 on new books and i'm out of room when it comes to shelves. I would like some one to post on how i deliver them. Thanks :3

About the Summer Reading

I know that most people hate summer reading assignments, I'm definitly one of them, but they are very key to your education. If your planning on going to college, they will give you a list of books and just expect you to have read them. I already have the list of what is suggested for theater majors at CNU and I'm working on it now. I know the assignments seem like poo, but they will help you later and it's better to get them over with and try to enjoy it. Even the worst books will have some humor so try to find it, that will make it much easier to read.

More New Books!

This isn't a new one, but one enjoyed by several readers here: A Great and Terrible Beauty. This is a blend of historical fiction, parallel worlds, and fantasy. It comes highly recommended by several student readers! Adult readers will enjoy this as well!

We also have the sequel, Rebel Angels. It is currently checked out, but should be available after Christmas!

Yet another recommendation comes from a student this morning--a new book we that just hit our shelves last week--Wintersmith, by Terri Pratchett! (Can you tell the Library Goddess has learned to add pictures to the blog?)

Now for a list of other new books! Many of these have been requested by students--I can honor requests as long as my money holds out!

For those who love books that make them cry: read Sold by Patricia McCormick. This is a novel set in Nepal, that will make you think about our sisters in other countries, and the conditions others survive on a daily basis.

We've recently added:

Mixed magics by Diana Wynne Jones

Fade to Black by Alex Flinn

Bedlam's Edge byMercedes Lackey

A Gesture Life by Chang-rae Lee

The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga

Autumn Bridge by Takas Matsuoka

And another I just have to post the picture of: Ophelia by Lisa Klein . This is also highly recommended by one of our student readers. This is a fresh take on the Hamlet story as told by Ophelia--you don't have to know Hamlet to enjoy this riveting tale.

Those 3-Named Authors I Love So Much

Sooo I accidentally became a conformist...and 3-named authors are now my loves.

We need more of these authors' books!!! I love them so uber-much....

Vivian Vande Velde
Diana Wynne Jones
Francesca Lia Block
Julie Anne Peters (actually, i think we have all her books)

BUT YEAH!!! i really really love these guys....especially VVV and FLB! They're my favoritest. We need Brothers Grimm and Sisters Weird by VVV and Goddess #9 by FLB...

Everyone really needs to check out these authors!! VVV does these...fantasy/magic things, as does DWJ.
FLB has more of a fantasy-realistic-real life-but-not-really thing...She's really fantastic, very trippy. I recommend The Rose and the Beast: Fairy Tales Retold.

Summer Reading Question

In response to the post about summer reading, I'm interested in what people think of that as well. I'm assuming that students using this blog are readers, so I'd appreciate hearing from you on the subject. Thanks.

Question about Eragon and other stuff

Hi, I finally figured out how to get back in here. Getting old and forgetting logins and passwords it not cool. Ah, well. Hey, I started Orson Scott Card's Empire and it is good so far. Got lots of post-9/11 tie ins, War on Terror gone awry kind of stuff.

Has anyone out there read Eragon? I was part of a conversation among college professors, some of whom held the view that a 15-year old could not possibly have experienced the world enough to be able to write well. Others held that that was not true. I haven't read it yet, but it sounds pretty good. What's the thinking? I won't see the movie until I've read the book, and then probably won't watch it anyway because I hate it when a movie is not nearly as good as the book.

Happy reading! That 9/11 graphic novel sounds kind of interesting. I'll check with my graphic novel expert to see how it is.

Summer Homework Reading Assignment

Alrighty now, i'm one of the lucky few who got Honors English next semster and we had a summer assignment. Well being the slacker that I am, I just wanted to know if we had any of the Summer Homework Reading Assignment? I sorta lost mine in the piles of papers i have. I might have accidently thrown it out, if the Library has any left... I love you. It would be very helpful for me since i plan on doing the assignment during the winter break.

And also, who's doing the Honors US History assignment? I heard from some people that the teachers arn't gonna grade it. Is that true? Cause that would be a waste of my time to do it, and not get gradded, if you catch my drift. And that book is so borring. I fell asleep on the second page!!! Post here on how you hate Summer Homework Reading Assignments.

More Vampire Kisses :3

As Danielle G. said, vampires freakn' rock. I'm your average blood, gore, zombie person and the best books would have to be the Vampire Hunter D series, Resident Evil series, Hellsing, Interview with a Vampire. I just got the Resident Evil first book and it is so good! I was adicted to it at first chapter. Well its late right now, actually past my time, laters everyone

^.^ Vampy Kisses! ^.^

Ok! Well I highly recommend the Vampire Kisses series I’ve owned it since last Christmas. Now for all my friends you know how I don’t like to read a book or watch a movie more then once or twice a year. Now here is the shocker! I’ve read this one 6 times since I bought it! SIX! S-I-X! ~.~ I NEED THE THIRD ONE STILL! @.@ Anyway its good, and has my golden stamp of approval! Most people know that that’s hard to get! I give out a lot of bronze and some silver but I don’t have many that gets the gold! (If that means anything to anyone!) T.T
ok by-by for now.

Speaking of reading the book before the movie comes out......

Okay, you CCHS readers, you know Eragon is coming out as a movie soon--make sure you read the book before the movie comes out! We have Christopher Paolini's entire series--I saw an interview with him on TV last night. He wrote Eragon when he was 15!!!!!! He is only 22 now, and sure to be a millionaire+ from the books and movie rights! I think that is an amazing accomplishment for his age. You know, if he can fulfill his dreams like that, anyone can! Just takes patience, and hard work. I was told of a website that lets you publish your own books--it is www.lulu.com. I think that would be the coolest thing--I have one chapter written on my great American novel, but am stuck there. You readers need to check lulu out--you could be the next great YA or adult novelist like Christopher Paolini!

books

A good series to read would be C.S. Friedman's Coldfire trilogy. The library has the first 2 and I am hoping that they will get the third(hint, hint). They also have a HUGE collection of really good manga. If you haven't read any before, you should.

<('.'<) Ummm books (>'.')>

OK! Lets see well I like books as all my friends know. My current obsession is Cirque De Freak. Oh but I'm so mad because the person that has number ten hasn't turned it in! It's MIA! @,@ GRRRR. Annnnyyyy way, lets see I really like Diana Wynne Jones! My favorite I think is either Charmed Life or Dog's Body they were both the first books I read of her's and are still my favorites. She has so many books and you don't know how stoked I was to enter the library my first day in high school and find an intire shelf shrined to her! @,@ She is my goddess. I was also really happy when they made a movie called Howls Moving Castle which was of her book. I get such a kick telling my friends I had read the book way before the movie was even being thought of! Sigh, one day I would love to meet her and I hope to one day collect all her books (i'm well on my way) I have read every one at some time or another. She is a must see next time you go to the library and 'hint hint' I would really love for SOMEONE to buy the books I mentioned for the library I promise it's really good! 'WINK WINK'

Manga Lovers Unite!

Ah lets see, i'm currently reading Mars, one of the best romance mangas i've ever read. I don't know what i'm gonna read next, i keep on looking for Angel Sanctuary 11, i've been waiting to read that one. I've been curious if we can also get the series Death Note, Sorocrates in love (spelling, sorry :p ) and the rest of the Kingdom Hearts Series? Post what ever stuff you like, bai bai, Snooze

Ok. Now I'm on the correct blog. I just finished Margaret Maron's new one--Winter's Child and it was great, as ususal. Actually, it was very cool. I'm trying to plow through one of her Sigrid Harrald books, but I'm not finding it riveting. I'm on p. 380 of Dickens' David Copperfield, very good but long, long, long. I thought when I started the Maron book that we'd find Deborah pregnant, but not so. It's set only one month after her wedding. I did not care for The Time Traveler's Wife by the way. Too, too contrived. Once you've had Jamie and Claire this thing was a veritable rag, as it were. It kind of reminded me of the sickeningly contrived characters of a Nicholas Sparks novel, only one of which I've actually read since it made me barf. My friend and neighbor just insisted that I read it--yuck. Let's see, what else is good. I read Box Socials by W.P. Kinsella, a treat. I love his Shoeless Joe years ago. He has terrific style. For you mystery fans, Dick Francis has a new one featuring Sid Halley and it's terrific. Also read the new Robert Parker and I found a copy of the very first Spenser book by Parker, The Godwulf Manuscript. Both were very fine. Love that Spenser. That was my Thanksgiving mind candy reading. I haven't done much of substance except for the Dickens, of course. Looking forward to more postings.

What are CCHS patrons (students and staff ) reading?

What are you reading? I am listening to Charles Frazier's new book, Thirteen Moons, on my Ipod Shuffle. The bad thing about it is that every time I turn the Ipod off, it restarts the silly book! So, I have listened to the first Chapters about 4 times. I will tell you, as a fan of Cold Mountain, that I am already hooked by the style of this book. It is conversational--made more so by the voice of the reader on the audio-book--and I am trapped into his story that spans generations. So, now, dear members of the list, what are you all reading, do you like the book, and why?

Welcome to Knight-time Readers--the CCHS blog about books!

Wheeeee!!! I have finally started the CCHS book blog--Knight-time Readers! This blog is for students and staff of CCCHS! Because this is a site that is tied to our school, and a site you can access during the school day as well as at home, there are some RULES TO FOLLOW!

2. Only patrons added to the blog list can post a thread or a discussion.
